The most important ways to do that is create not only a culture and a process for the website, but to provide the most advanced tools to aid that process.
One such tool is our search capability. Our Search is not like other listing engines. Instead of building a search that only allows you to search for certain keywords that appear on the site, we allow you to search beyond to content of the website, and find specific locations or landmarks near where you are looking to live, and then find the most comprehensive list of properties from there.
Because of this, we do not group listings into certain pages that we create, but instead allow the listings to be site-wide, and have them searchable from anywhere in the World. So if a search is done in Toronto, and the search radius is big enough, the user can see the listings in Winnipeg as well. They would not have to leave the "Toronto page" and go and visit the "Winnipeg page."
This also works between states and provinces and even between countries.
How it works:
When looking for a place to live or work on any of our sites, first start by typing in area which you are looking for. If perhaps you would like to find a place near where your new job is going to be, you can type in the address of your new workplace. Or if you are moving to Toronto Canada, and you would like to live within 20 kilometers of the CN Tower, then simply type into the search bar, "CN Tower" and then you can refine your search from there for the perfect place to live.
With this search capability, you can type in any specific location, address, intersection, landmark, or area such as a city, or state to find the properties you are looking for. Do not be limited with borders or limitations or sites that group listings into a certain area page. If you are trying to find your perfect new place to live, try this system to find a better way to search.
What is happening:
When you type in any specific location, the search will then find the exact latitude and longitude for your search. Once the exact latitude and longitude is found it will then find all of the listings in a 20 kilometer/mile radius. Do not see enough results? Try expanding your search radius on the left hand side of the results page.
How it is displayed:
Once the search has been performed, the system will show you all of the results in the default radius. This results will be displayed by the "Ad Score" of the results. To read more on how we display our results by Ad Score, please read our post titled, "Search Results: how are they displayed?"
Once a new radius is determined, or any other part of the search is refined, the new results will show up, and then the new results will again be organized by the Ad Scores.
Refine your search:
Once a search has been performed, and the results are displayed, it is very easy to refine your search results to get a more specific list of properties you are looking for.
On the left hand side of the results page, you can get your results more specific by selecting a price range, or selecting from any of the other options to find a more specific search result.
